Not as cool as I thought I was…

So I spent this weekend in the burbs, which means nothing of consequence happened in my life. I didn’t drink, I ate too much food, I went grocery shopping (I do love a good grocery store in the suburbs), and hung out with my dad while he recovered from knee surgery. Now, my dad is a bit of a talker and these four days (OK 3.5 days), were pretty long. Luckily, loads of people called the house and he got to tell the tale of his knee surgery no less than twenty-five times and people were fascinated. I sat there reminding myself that I wasn’t wasting my life listening to these stories of a pretty uneventful surgery (he had a torn meniscus-i could have done the damn thing myself). The true value-add came when he discussed with everyone he spoke to what his post-surgery bowel movements were like. Seriously!??!! When does that become an interesting topic of conversation??!! It was pretty special. I realized I just needed to drown him out a bit and be patient because they are all old and boring and live in the suburbs, but I am young and cool and would be returning to my really cool life in NYC shortly. On the train ride back to NYC, I was quickly reminded of the fact that my really cool life on a Saturday night was not the Sex and the City existence that I sometimes like to think I lead. I was running back to the city to eat dinner (amazing food) but to eat dinner (in-it is a recession) with a good friend and then go see…wait for it…Harry Potter. I was out until 1:30am on a Saturday night and I wasn’t on a date with a hot guy, I wasn’t intoxicated, I wasn’t dancing on a bar I was watching a kids movie. I am really just not that cool.
