yesterday's panic attack
so i’ve been having these massive headaches in the middle of the afternoon at work and it has really been stressing me out. i’ve spent the last week or so trying to figure out what could be wrong with me: do i hate my job? do i hate the guy who sits next to me? am i pmsing? i thought as critically as i possibly could and was coming up empty.
yesterday, i had a business lunch with my...

delightful sunday
If your Sunday does not include a hangover for some reason, I would strongly recommend while it is still nice out, taking a walk over to the west side before all the Hamptons folks return to repopulate the city with their eating disorders, coke habits, and far too expensive preppy clothing. The west side is where I spent most of Sunday solo enjoying the people watching which mostly included cute...

The Ex-Banker Living on Alcohol, Hook-ups, and Unemployment…
ummm wow. now here is the thing, i would love to be all self-righteous and judgmental and rant about how inappropriate this girl’s behavior is, but at the end of the day i must own up...
Two djs in one week...
On my walk home from the gym with laptop and salad in tow, yes it is a friday night and I am that cool. I noticed a mob of people and press in front of an apartment building on lafayette street just a few blocks from my own place. There were cameras everywhere and annoying people, press, ect. I was none too pleased, until I asked someone what was going on that was blocking my way home and keeping...

service to the community???
so i got up extra early this morning and left my downtown apartment in the rain donning chuck taylors and denim, to head to a united way funded daycare center in harlem to volunteer with some folks from my company. not only was the crew primarily white, but even absent that fact, we couldn’t have been any more out of place. it was hilarious and embarrassing all at the same time. here come...

Political Legend
“We know that the future will outlast all of us, but I believe all of us will live on in the future we make.” -Edward Moore Kennedy
Since everyone else blogged about this yesterday, I’m going to blog about it today. I do whatever I can to be special.
My first meeting with the senior senator from Massachusetts was actually on my own turf in the suburbs of New York at an event where he was honored...

Americans are too tired to have sex. →
(via soupsoup)
this is actually why we’re fat. the combination of exhaustion (lack of sleep statistically makes it more difficult to burn fat and slows your metabolism) and lack of physical activity plus the “occasional” over consumption of really delicious processed foods, you get one really fat country.

Public health officials are considering promoting routine circumcision for all...
– Newsflash: Baby foreskin causes AIDS. (NYTimes) (via deleteyourself)
This is actually pretty serious news-not because I have a baby boy, or plan to have one in the near term, but apparently the generation of folks presently having babies is debating the worthiness of circumcision. Technically...
AGAIN LOVING NYC...
and trying to find a church that isn’t full of crazy conservatives. i’m clearly NOT headed to queens, but check out this woman:
http://www.nytimes.com/packages/html/nyregion/1-in-8-million/index.html#ojeda_hallphillips
the only thing that breaks my heart is that she was not able to sustain her marriage throughout all of her “do-gooding”
BACK TO LOVING NYC
Tonight I will celebrate one of my dear friends and a board member of The Pink Agenda under the stars at Le Jardin Bistro in honor of the ten year anniversary of her bone marrow transplant. It may sound like an odd thing to celebrate, but Jackie has had cancer not once, but twice and was saved by a combination of this bone marrow transplant and arsenic poisoning-true story. Having said that,...

WELCOME TO HELL
Now I really do love NYC, but I’m beginning to think that too much time spent here can totally mess with your head and make you a little bit insane and the city can be one hellish place to be. I will use today as a prime example. I know I have been in NYC for too long because this morning I was on the subway platform in Soho and was so hot, I was semi-enjoying the “breeze” that is created when...

i may be a loser but at least my morals are...
So I think I may have rejected the first date I’ve been asked on all summer which makes me a real LOSER.
The trick here is that the date was offered in Aspen, Colorado. The dude has an insane travel schedule and absent potentially being able to take me to the US Open (yes my life is that hard), he likely will not be able to see me for a few weeks, but has business meetings and I believe a...

Adventure to the far east (hamptons not asia...)
Our foray into life “out east,” mind you the purpose of this trip was to raise money for a truly worthwhile cause, was eventful to say the least.
We went from the scariest(think creepy movie that comes out around halloween type hotel, to almost killing one another we were so tired and hungry to ultimately finding ourselves fat and happy on the beach sunday afternoon. In between the...
I cannot deal
They are saying “gay” and “retarded” entirely too much for me-don’t like those words. Also, they need to stop talking about their time at columbia business school and the previous undergraduate ivy league educations, and the tax implications of their funds. “If its incorporated as an INC this is the average payout and tax liabilities to be considered.”...
Pastels, market updates , and connecticut lockjaw
You guessed it-im headed to the hamptons. I got up at 6am to go hangout with the people I usually try to avoid in NYC. The designer shades, vineyard vines totes, and talk of market news/stock quotes on this LIRR train is all a little overwhelming. Its only 8:45 in the morning, the dudes sitting behind us are playing some sort of really loud game, and “Pretty in Pink” as I have so aptly...
things i know today
these are the ten things that i know today:
sake is not good for you
gatorade is good for you
it is presently really tough to spell/type…
i’m wearing the same make-up i put on yesterday morning
my brain is swollen
i made it home (alone)
i didn’t drunk dial anyone
i did drunk text/email a few folks
my boss does not actually have a doctor’s appointment it is just a...
Conservatives in the village? True story.
So I found out where all the conservatives hangout in downtown Manhattan-in Greenwich Village. Yes, “the village” where the gay rights movement was created and where I thought only more liberal-minded folk hangout, there is indeed a safe haven for the 23ish conservatives who live downtown.
Since I moved to Manhattan over three years ago, I have been “church shopping.” I...
Not as cool as I thought I was...
So I spent this weekend in the burbs, which means nothing of consequence happened in my life. I didn’t drink, I ate too much food, I went grocery shopping (I do love a good grocery store in the suburbs), and hung out with my dad while he recovered from knee surgery. Now, my dad is a bit of a talker and these four days (OK 3.5 days), were pretty long. Luckily, loads of people called the house...

charitini:
Well, now. I guess that makes sense. It’s pretty damn good for melting cheese and chocolate.
Have I ever mentioned how much I love Nora Ephron? Oh. Yep.
i am in the burbs which means there is literally nothing to report on other than the fact that i may beat my father with his crutches.
ultimately though, one must appreciate a woman who prefers food preparation methods to birth...

Booze, buses, and the best pizza on the planet
Last night as I was rushing home from work to another meeting (shock) I got really annoyed because I literally ran into a HUGE group of tourists in front of Lombardi’s Pizzeria which is on the corner of Mott and Spring.
I was pretty ticked off because as you know, I am kind of a big deal, I am always in a rush, and I have little tolerance for tourists in my hood. I will obviously stop and give...

So much better than real life (aka Istanbul and...
So it has been a while and after a month without blogging, I realized that I miss blogging, so I’m back!! After my service as a Koumbara in Mykonos and attempting to navigate Istanbul (which was totally underwhelming) here are the top ten highlights/fun facts of the two week mandatory (according to US bank regulations) vacation:
I may be Greek Orthodox-I have no idea what was said during this...

So I'm in my first wedding...
And it is in mykonos and I get to wear Cavalli which sounds like a pretty sweet deal. I’m going on a fabulous vacation in Greece, followed by a fabulous vacation in Turkey. I’m traveling with several of my closest friends including my roommates from college and I get to wear (and I think keep??) a Cavalli dress!!! As a bridesmaid, all I have had to provide thus far is the following:...

Spackle and cake frosting are not the same thing
So apparently spackle is not supposed to be applied like cake frosting. It looks like vanilla cake frosting and I’ve never really used it (ok, I’ve never ever used it) so I related it to the one thing that I know which is cake frosting. I was frosting away at some holes in my old bedroom and wasn’t really making much progress. My dad said the stuff was easy to use and would dry...

petty thievery...
i have always prided myself on being non-territorial (and endorsing innocent petty thievery) and i am always willing to give or share whatever i may have in my possession with others. i don’t really care much for material things and i think attachment to material things is generally not the best plan. having said that, if i’m going to share something, especially with someone who...
Metro North
I hate it when people sit right next to me on the train. It actually has the potential to make me totally insane and even borderline batshit crazy. It is a 90 minute train ride on the weekends from my parent’s house back to my NYC bubble and I just don’t want anyone sitting right next to me for those 90 minutes. They are almost always fat, or at least on the bigger side, and sometimes...

And I'm officially not stressed out by life...
I am putting that message out there to everyone because today, I nearly killed myself. Not in the literal sense-I mean there were no knives or anything too crazy involved but I seriously almost knocked myself out in the bathroom this morning. How does one almost knock themselves out in the bathroom? Well, I’m sure there are several ways and I’ve actually done it once before, but this...

Good morning nyc
so lp has been saying for the last two years that we live around the corner from a meth clinic. mind you, we live in the neighborhood of kelly ripa and malnourished models so it seemed a little bogus and out of place, but because she is so wise, I’ve been paying attention. i’ve noticed that there is an awkwardly placed blue building that doesn’t really fit with the rest of the...
Wine glasses and bookshelves
i survived the move but my stuff is all over the place and essentially a massive disaster. i know what I need to do and it does not involve me actually doing anything except spending money. all I really care about is my bed and that is all set, but that clearly isn’t enough to make a new apartment feel like home, nor does it make the place conducive to entertaining guests. i basically need...

why do we have to work during the summer?
why do we have to work during the summer?
it just doesn’t make a lick of sense to me. the structure that worked for 18 or 22 years, was great and i’m not sure why it had to stop. i have a real problem going to work during june, july, and august (sometimes even early september is tough). i’m twenty-six and even though i worked summers during junior high, high school, and...
